Relay raises $53,400

Despite the rain this weekend, it didn't dampen the spirits of those who packed into the Brewton YMCA to help raise money for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.
Relay for Life is a fundraiser for The American Cancer Society research. This year in Brewton, 11 teams helped raise $53,400 for cancer research.
The afternoon began with a welcome and a short story by a survivor.
Dorris Faulk faced the crowd and began her story of how she survived cancer not once, but twice.
Faulk was first diagnosed with cancer in October 1999. She visited a family doctor and was diagnosed with breast cancer. She lived five years cancer free and in April 2004, the doctor found a malignant tumor on her kidney.
The campsites were set up shortly before noon, and awards were given out later in the evening. The following teams received awards:
