Escambia BOE approves raises

Employees of the Escambia County Board School System will begin benefiting from the 6 percent pay raise recently approved by the Alabama Legislature at the beginning of the new school year, rather than in October, when it will be state mandated.
The board also named T.R. Miller graduate Kyle Ferguson principal of Escambia County High School.
Ferguson, who has served as an assistant principal at the high school for the past several years, was named acting principal earlier this month when the principal, Jerry Smith, was placed on administrative leave. Smith subsequently resigned.
Powell said there were four applicants for the principal's job. The applicants were interviewed by a committee of five teachers, three parents and five members of the administrative staff.
