Edward Martindale Brooks

Mr. Edward Martindale Brooks, 92, died Tuesday, May 31, 2005, at a Birmingham hospital. He was a resident of Brewton until recently. He was a native of Saranac Lakes, N.Y. and was a long time resident of Brewton. He was an active forester for over 70 years and lent his time and talent to landscape and flowers. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Brewton and served as a Sunday school teacher and deacon. He was a member of the City Beautification Committee and was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Ruth Robertson Brooks.
He is survived by two daughters, Kathy Brooks (Joe) Bethea Allison Brooks Crawford; a son, Clark Martindale Brooks; seven grandchildren, Ed Bethea, Leslie Bethea Armstrong, Pat Bethea, Mary Allison Crawford Glenn, Brooks Crawford, Paul Crawford and Ashley Brooks, and six great-grandchildren.
A private burial services was held Thursday, June 2, at 10 a.m. at Union Cemetery with Craver's Funeral Home directing, followed by a celebration of life at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Brewton with the Rev. John Mathieu officiating. Pall bearers were Joe Bethea, Ed Bethea, Pat Bethea, John Armstrong, Brooks Crawford, Paul Crawford and Doug Glenn. Honorary pallbearers were the Men's Sunday School Class of First Presbyterian Church.
