This year's Alabama Blueberry Festival, coordinated by the Greater Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce and held on the campus of Jefferson Davis Community College, marks the 25th anniversary of the event.
Festivities begin Friday night with the return of the street dance to downtown Brewton, beginning at 7:30 p.m. The fun continues Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at JDCC with blueberry-themed food, arts and crafts and entertainment.
The festival draws hundreds, perhaps thousands, of visitors to our community each year. It's a good chance for us to think of the visitors as "company," and prepare for their arrival in the way that we prepare for visitors in our homes, tidying up for guests.
In addition to supporting the event that is a major fundraiser for the chamber, it is hoped that the visitors will leave some tax dollars while in town, providing a small economic boost to the community.
We live in a lovely community, and this is a great chance to show it off. We hope you'll do your part, and join us at JD for blueberries this weekend.
