The list of players who have departed the Jefferson Davis Community College Warhawks baseball program has doubled from three to six over the past week.
Two of the most recent departures are former T.R. Miller Tigers. Catcher Jordan Ball, who would be an incoming freshman, has hooked on with Alabama Southern College. Ball was a Class 3A All-State First Team selection this past spring with the Tigers where he hit .431 with five homers and 35 RBIs.
Another former Tiger, sophomore-to-be righthanded pitcher Patrick Sorrells, is also headed to Alabama Southern.
Sorrells was 1-1 with a 4.73 earned run average in 13 1/3 innings of work this spring. Sorrells allowed nine hits and struck out 15. Opposing batters hit .209 against him. Sorrells' biggest highlight of the spring was a no-hitter he tossed against Hibbings College.
Like JDCC, Alabama Southern will also field a new coach next season but the Eagles have already filled their position with the hiring of University of South Alabama assistant coach Scot Sealy.
Also gone is sophomore-to-be outfielder Kyle McPherson of Mobile. McPherson has signed with Faulkner State College. McPherson hit .293 with three homers and 30 RBIs with a .444 slugging percentage this spring.
Pitcher Nick Porter (to Calhoun), pitcher Ben Jackson (to Faulkner State) and infielder Clay Mather (to Pensacola Junior College) had previously withdrawn from JDCC and signed with other programs.
The JDCC baseball program will be holding tryouts June 27 at 1 p.m. at the JDCC Field. Any players who will be attending JDCC in the upcoming school year are encouraged to participate.
