The T.R. Miller boys athletic program has been named the winner of the Dodge Champion Cup Award for the 2004-05 school year.
The honor is presented to both the boys and girls athletic programs based on their performance in the most popular Alabama High School Athletic Association sports.
A school receives points based on its finish in the six AHSAA state championship sports that the majority of the 410 members participate in during that school year. Those sports are football, volleyball, basketball, baseball, softball and outdoor track.
The top 32 places in each championship sport playoff were scored when possible. Teams received 50 points for a state championship, one point for a 32nd place finish and various point values in between.
T.R. Miller's boys won the Class 3A title with 158 points. The rest of the top 10 consisted of: 2. Winfield 138; 3. Montgomery Academy 122 3/4; 4. Oneonta 105; 5. Leeds 98 1/2; 6. Sumter County 97; 7. Hokes Bluff 93; 8. Cherokee County 87 1/2; 9. Midfield 87; 10. Springville 86 3/4.
T.R. Miller's 158 points was the highest total among the other boys class state champions. Hubbard won Class 1A at 137, Calera took 2A at 121 1/2, UMS-Wright claimed 4A at 148 3/4, Homewood at 137 and Hoover finished atop 6A at 143.
In the girls division, T.R. Miller finished in a tie for fourth in Class 3A with 110 1/2 points.
Alabama Christian took the 3A state title at 146 1/2 points. The rest of the top 10 in Class 3A consisted of: 2. Montgomery Academy 131; 3. Leeds 111; 4. (tie) T.R. Miller, Pisgah 110 1/2; 6. Dadeville 104 1/4; 7. Sheffield 90; 8. Montgomery Catholic 89 1/2; 9. Ohatchee 87 1/2; 10. Glencoe 81 1/2.
Class 6A state champ Vestavia Hills had the highest point total overall among girls state champions with 175 points. The rest of the girls state champions were Addison in Class 1A with 165 points, Pleasant Valley in Class 2A at 143 3/4, Alabama Christian in Class 3A at 146 1/2, St. James in Class 4A at 171 and Benjamin Russell in Class 5A at 122.
