East Brewton Mayor Terry Clark announced Monday night that Police Chief Wilson Mallard will retire, effective July 27.
Mallard was appointed interim chief in April of 1992. He replaced Chuck Adkins who had worked as police chief for more than 11 years. When Mallard became interim chief he had worked with the department as an investigator on the force. According to City Clerk Karen Singleton, Mallard has served as the police chief for 16 years.
A retirement party will be held for Mallard on July 28 at 2 p.m.
The mayor said that the city will begin to advertise for a new police chief in the near future and will advertise in local and neighboring papers. The mayor added that a statement will be released in coming weeks.
