Mr. Manford A. Merchant, 81, died Monday, June 27, 2005 at a local hospital. He was a native and lifelong resident of the Brewton area. He worked as a millwright with T.R. Miller Mill Company for a number of years. He was of the Holiness faith and was preceded in death by his first wife, Louise Merchant.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Merchant of East Brewton; four sons, Jimmie Wayne Merchant of Brewton, Ricky L. Merchant of Holt, Fla., Robert Johnson of Monroeville, and Daniel Johnson of East Brewton; six daughters, Kathy Blair and Gwen Minchew, both of Brewton, Lisa Barnes of Century, Fla.,Cathy Blackwell and Tracy Blair, both of East Brewton, and Alice Hendricks of Pineview; two brothers, Pete Merchant of East Brewton and Robert Merchant of Eufaula; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held today, Wednesday, June 29, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 30, at 10 a.m. from the chapel of Craver's Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald Watson II officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery with Craver's Funeral Home directing.
