The Fourth of July is a holiday that everyone can relate to. We are a nation of different ideas, different religions and different cultures, but there is one thing we can agree on – we are all proud of where we live.
The Fourth of July is one holiday that puts aside all the many differences. It's a day when we get together and tell our country, "Happy Birthday America."
People in Brewton and East Brewton are no different. They, too, have their own ways of celebrating. Many will cook out, watch fireworks, go see the duck race or find any number of things to do on the Monday.
But the important thing to remember is, we all have the right to do that which we want to do.
A few people around town were asked what their Fourth of July family tradition was and what they would be doing on that day.
Jennifer Howard is looking forward to spending time with family and making vanilla ice cream.
Four-year-old Kiala McConnico said her family usually has a two-day picnic-a fish fry on the 3rd and a barbeque on July 4. McConnico is also excited about celebrating her father's birthday. "I'm going to get him a cake," she said.
Carol Ellington said that her family usually leaves town and goes to their house on the river at Miller's Ferry. Once there they will get together with others in the neighborhood to have a cook out.
George Morrell plans on doing a little swimming on his holiday.
Charles McClain said that he had come to town from Newnan, Ga. to see his girlfriend.
Linda Scroggins said she and her family would be going to Gravel Lake in Century to do some swimming and have a cookout.
Cathy McCurdy has a special way of celebration.
