After being paired against Region 3 in the opening round of the Alabama High School Athletic Association state football playoffs in recent years, Class 3A Region 1 teams will see some different faces in that round this season.
Region 1 (T.R. Miller, W.S. Neal, Pike County, Straughn, Abbeville, Headland, Dale County and Slocomb) will be pitted against Region 2. Region 2 consists of Alabama Christian, Barbour County, Calhoun, Montgomery Catholic, Montgomery Academy, Dadeville, Holtville, and Lafayette.
Region 3 (Aliceville, Central-Hayneville, Clarke County, Francis Marion, Midfield, Northside, Sumter County and West Blocton) is now slated to play Region 4 (Ashville, Fultondale, Leeds, Locust Fork, Oneonta, J.B. Pennington, Springville and Sumiton Christian) in the opening round of the playoffs.
Region 5 (Glencoe, Hokes Bluff, Lincoln, Litchfield, Munford, Ohatchee, Piedmont and Weaver) will play Region 6 (Cherokee County, Crossville, Susan Moore, New Hope, North Sand Mountain, Pisgah, Plainview and Sardis).
Region 7 (Carbon Hill, Danville, Good Hope, Hanceville, Sulligent, Vinemont, Winfield and Winston County) will play Region 8 (Colbert County, Elkmont, Lauderdale County, Madison Academy, Rogers, Sheffield, West Limestone and West Morgan).
The top four teams from each region qualify for the playoffs and the top two teams in each region will have home games in the first round. The first place team will play the fourth place team from the region it is paired up against and the second place team will play the third place team from that opposing region.
The first round of the state playoffs will be November 4. The second round will be November 11. The quarterfinals will be November 18. The semifinals will be November 25. The Class 3A state championship game will open up the Super Six December 1 at 3 p.m. at Legion Field in Birmingham. The Class 4A state championship game will also be played that day at 7 p.m.
The Class 1A state championship game will be December 2 at 3 p.m. followed by the Class 5A title contest at 7 p.m.
The Super Six games conclude December 3 with the Class 2A state championship game at 11 a.m. and the Class 6A championship game at 3 p.m.

The AHSAA has also announced its postseason alignment for volleyball.
T.R. Miller and W.S. Neal will remain in Class 3A Area 1 along with Clarke County. For the fourth straight year (or in more simple terms every year both T.R. Miller and W.S. Neal have had the sport), the Area 1 Tournament will be held at Clarke County. This year's tournament will be held October 17.
The top two teams will advance to regional competition October 22.
For the second straight year, Area 1 will be paired up against Area 2 in the opening round of regional play. Area 2 consists of Pike County, Headland, Dale County and Barbour County. Last season T.R. Miller played its first ever regional game against Headland.
Area 1 and Area 2 feed into Regional A along with Areas 3 and 4. Area 3 consists of Montgomery Academy, Montgomery Catholic and LAMP. Area 4 contains Alabama Christian, Holtville and Dadeville.
Regional sites will be determined at a later time.
The T.R. Miller Quarterback Club has scheduled a meeting for Monday at 6 p.m. at the Field House.
The Jefferson Davis Community College Lady Warhawks volleyball team has scheduled its annual 250-point match for August 13 at 1 p.m. at the JDCC Gym.
While the event is a fundraiser and all donations are welcome, fans are welcome to attend and get a sneak preview of the 2005 Lady Warhawks.
JDCC is slated to open up its season August 26 at the Wallace State Tournament.
Contact Lady Warhawks coach Misti Nims at JDCC for additional information.
