Service stripes for one year of service were awarded to 13 nurses at the annual meeting of the local chapter of the Red Cross last week.
Many people don't think about planting broccoli and kohlrabi, but they are two vegetables that grow well in most Alabama soils, and take about the same treatment as the more familiar collards and cabbage. Kohlrabi looks like kale and has a mild turnip flavor. It should be planted before the end of July. Broccoli should be ready to transplant by September 1.
A talent show called "Holiday Ahoy" will be presented Friday and Saturday nights at W.S. Neal High School by the East Brewton Civitan and Band Booster Club. Proceeds from the event will go to underprivileged children.
Patrolman Johnny Baldwin was recently presented with an award of merit for outstanding performance.
Southern Pine Co-Op shows an increase of consumer use with 7,875 members using 18, 450, 364 kilowatt hours of electricity. Continued expansion will be made, and the co-op hopes to serve more than 8,000 soon.
