If Alan Baker was T.R. Miller football coach Jamie Riggs' right hand man when it came to the Tigers defense for the last 16 seasons, then Marc Edge will have to be his left hand man this season.
For the first time since Riggs took over the head coaching duties in 1989, somebody other than Baker will call the shots on the T.R. Miller defense.
Those duties have now fallen on Edge's lap, who joined the T.R. Miller program last year as offensive and defensive line coach after previous stops at Robert E. Lee, Daleville and Montevallo.
This season marks the second time Edge has worked as a defensive coordinator. He held that title for four seasons (1994-97) at Daleville before he became the head coach of that program.
While no heir apparent to Baker was announced last season, Edge took plenty of notes in possible anticipation of becoming defensive coordinator.
Edge said one of the biggest differences between being a defensive coordinator at T.R. Miller as compared to his previous stint in that position at Daleville is player rotation.
Another change Edge has noticed since his last stint as a defensive coordinator is the way a defense has to prepare.
