2,713 county residents have unclaimed property on state books

The Alabama Treasury Department wants residents to know that more than 2,000 listings with Escambia County addresses appear on the unclaimed property database.
Treasurer Kay Ivey stopped in Brewton Friday afternoon and announced that 2,713 Escambia County addresses remain in the database, and she wants to reunite Alabamians with their unclaimed property.
She added that there is no need to hire an attorney bounty hunter to claim the unclaimed property. It is "citizen to citizen doing business," she said.
Ivey said that a record amount of unclaimed property has been received by the Treasury this year. To date, the Treasury has taken in more than $76 million in unclaimed property. In addition, more than $11 million has been paid in claims to more than 26,000 individuals.
All Alabamians are encouraged to search for their name on the Unclaimed Property database by visiting www.treasury.alabama.gov, or by calling the Treasurer's Office toll-free at 1-888-844-8400 and request a claim form.
