One would think a year where a program sets its school record for victories in a season and posts its deepest advancement into the postseason would go down as an overwhelming success.
Despite those accomplishments, the 8-17 record posted by the T.R. Miller Lady Tigers volleyball team a year ago probably says otherwise.
The Lady Tigers graduated half their starting lineup with the departure of setter Rachel Morgan, outside hitter Courtney Krehbiel and middle hitter Erin Byrne, which means T.R. Miller returns half of its starting lineup this season along with some additional figures who saw considerable playing time last season.
Setter should be one of T.R. Miller's most stable spots where senior and two-time team most valuable player Terri Lynne Peacock and senior Emily Layton return. Peacock stands 5-5 and Layton is 5-6.
to mix up the location of where she puts the ball. Emily came into our program last year and did a really good job for a first-year player. She isn't a hard hitter. She is more of a dink and tip type hitter. Emily quickly developed into a good and consistent server. Her ball has a lot of spin on it."
Leslie Nalty, a 5-6 sophomore, and 5-6 freshman Morgan Hubbard may also get some work at the setter position.
Rebecca Scott, a 5-9 junior, will probably anchor one of the outside hitter positions to go along with the combination of Layton and Peacock.
Megan Fountain, a 5-5 senior, could see some time on the outside or in the middle.
Shandreka Foster, a 5-9 junior, returns to the lineup as a middle hitter.
The T.R. Miller coach hopes the team's "wild card" will be 6-0 senior middle hitter Joy McCorvey. McCorvey has excelled on both the basketball court and on the track, but has never played volleyball before.
Stacey Jackson, a 5-6 senior, and Vivian Muth, a 5-3 senior, figure to be defensive back row specialists as left backs. Both saw a lot of action in that role last year.
Rachel Bostic, a 5-9 sophomore, and Michal Hubbard, a 5-9 sophomore, could get some spot duty action.

that has limited what she can do right now," Peacock said. "Michal has done O.K. at the net and might get some time up front."
Peacock said there will be several keys as to whether or not the Lady Tigers will be able to improve their season record from a year ago and make a bid for their first ever winning season.
A new item on the T.R. Miller schedule this season is the inaugural Escambia County Tournament. The Lady Tigers will host that event October 15.
