In a week where many Alabama high school football teams are making preparations for an exhibition game opponent, the T.R. Miller Tigers will still be in the business as usual mode.
Riggs said he would much rather use the current practice time to get ready for Escambia County, the season-opening foe which plays at Brewton August 26, than an exhibition opponent.
Teams that play exhibition games face the risk of injury to key players before the season starts. Riggs said that is not much of a factor in his decision not to play an exhibition game.
The Tigers actually had their "exhibition game" last Friday with a team scrimmage.
While the running back position, where T.R. Miller returns six of its top seven rushers from a year ago, figures to be strong anyway, Riggs said it is an area that has pleasantly surprised him the most over the first two weeks of practice.
Riggs indicated the overall T.R. Miller defense has not come along as quickly as he would have liked at this point of practice.
Riggs indicated the identity of the opening day lineup is starting to come together.
The identity of the defensive line is probably the biggest question on that side of the ball.
