The T.R. Miller High School gymnasium is in its final phase of renovations, with the application of a new roof to the building. The renovations, which were begun last year, are expected to be complete by the time school starts. City and county schools will begin Friday, Aug. 22.
County commissioners approved voting places for the Sept. 2 primaries. There are about 30 voting places throughout the county, including Atmore City Hall, East Brewton City Hall and T.R. Miller High School. Voters will elect a U.S. Senator, a Public Service Commission President, a District Judge, two county commissioners and three constables.
The Happy Hearts Group of First Baptist Church met Thursday from 10-1p.m. for its monthly meeting. Debra Pitts led devotion and the ladies enjoyed games, craft and a covered-dish luncheon.
A total of 203 men 19 and 20 years of age filled out selective service forms at the Brewton Post Office during the weeks of July 21-26 and July 28-Aug. 2.
