Cotton picking and ginning are expected to hit a peak in the Brewton area next week. The hot weather, after all, is perfect cotton-picking weather. A.E. Kelly, owner of the Brewton Gin Company said, "Picking ought to be in full swing next week and for the next three weeks."
Last week, librarian Ida Liles was told that the Brewton Public Library has the highest circulation of any other library in the state. The library currently owns 2,121 books and loans 701 books from the state service. A total of 1,054 people have a library card.
A 700-foot sidewalk is being put in on the East side of Sowell Road. It will run from near McClellan Street to near Washington Junior High School.
The Escambia County Hospital Board signed a contract for the construction of a health clinic in Flomaton last week. The structure will cost $60,000, and is slated for completion by March 1956. It will be a one-story brick building measuring 113×33 feet with five bedrooms and eight beds.
