Brewton police officers responded to a call regarding an armed robbery Thursday that occurred at the Diamond Station #14.
According to Police Chief David Lovelace, Sgt. Eric Suarez and officers Jeffery McGraw and Rodney Brand responded to a call on Aug. 18 at 7:04 p.m. from the Amoco-Diamond South, located at 1570 South Blvd.
Upon arrival, the clerk told officers two black males wearing white t-shirts, blue jeans and "do-rags" on their heads came into the store. One man purchased a Little Debbie cake and laid $1 on the counter while the other male went back outside.
After buying the cake, the man inside went to the door and called the other man back inside. When he came in he was carrying a gun and demanded the clerk to give him the money in the register.
The clerk gave him the undisclosed amount of money inside the cash register and the two men ran outside. They headed toward the Dairy Fresh building near the convenience store, Lovelace said.
Sgt. Russell Martin, Lt. James Hicks and Lovelace arrived later to the scene to secure the area. It was believed that the two robbers left on foot, but further investigation has led police to believe they did have a vehicle. A witness gave police a partial description of the vehicle, and Lovelace said they were working on several leads.
Lovelace said there were some similarities to a robbery that occurred early Thursday at a Movie Gallery in Flomaton, and they were working closely with the Flomaton Police Department.
