A dispute between two neighbors ended in gunfire Monday evening in Nokomis, a small community in the west end of the county.
Nora Taylor, 46, of Atmore was shot in the chest and transported to Atmore Community Hospital in a private vehicle by Frankie Barlow. She was later transported to a Pensacola hospital where she had emergency surgery Tuesday morning and is listed in stable condition in the intensive care unit. She is expected to make a full recovery.
Randy Hadley of Johnson Road is suspected to be the shooter in the incident after being positively identified by a witness of the shooting.
Smith doesn't expect Hadley to turn himself in.
NCIC is a nationwide computer system that stores the names of people who are wanted or missing and their criminal history.
Deputies from the Escambia County Sheriff's Office (ECSO) and officers from the Atmore Police Department (APD) responded to Frankie Barlow's residence on Johnson Road after being dispatched to a "shots fired" call in the Nokomis Community around 11:30 p.m. Monday. Upon arrival, APD received a phone call from the emergency room at Atmore Community Hospital reporting that doctors were treating a female gunshot wound victim.
Smith and four investigators were immediately called out to investigate the shooting.
Hadley is described as a 42-year-old white male, 5-foot-9, 140 pounds with hazel eyes and brown hair. According to Smith he has fled and his location is unknown at this time. He is considered armed and dangerous.
