The Escambia County Sheriff's Department Thursday arrested Ian Thomasson of River Falls, Ala., and charged him with murder in the recent death of George Eugene Dubose.
Dubose, 74, was found dead in his front yard on August 18 and appeared to be the victim of a murder/robbery, law enforcement officials said.
Lt. Monte McGougin, Lt. Kenny Brazile, Sgt. Jeff Beasley, and Investigator Shevie Stewart of the Escambia County Sheriff's Office, Lt. Keith Hutchins of the 21st Judicial Drug Task Force, Agent Doug Darby of the Alabama Bureau of Investigation, and officers of the Covington County Sheriff's Office, Andalusia Police Department and the Covington County District Attorney's Office located and interviewed Thomasson in Covington County on Thursday, Sept. 8.
After that interview, Thomasson was arrested and charged with Dubose's murder.
Escambia County Sheriff Grover Smith said no other details are being made available at this time because the case is at a critical stage and any statement might hinder the investigation.
Dubose was expected to meet friends for breakfast on the morning of his death. When he failed to show up, they drove to his mobile home to check on him and found his body lying in the yard.
