James C. Weaver of Brewton has had his first novel published and he will sign copies Thursday, Sept. 29, at the Brewton Public Library.
Weaver was born in the deep rural area of West Virginia and is the oldest of six children. The family moved to the city when he was a small child and he graduated from high school in 1949. The family did not have money to send him to college so he studied on his own, joining the U.S. Air Force in 1950, where he served honorably for four years.
He moved his family to Florida and continued his education while he worked for the NASA Space Center, working up to senior electrical engineer. He applied for and was given the opportunity to take the professional engineering examination. He obtained his license in both Florida and Alabama.
He became interested in writing at an early age but approached it seriously when he neared retirement. He completed a course in writing for children, writing several short stories for children and completed a children's novel, which he revises from time to time, keeping it on file with "all the reject letters from publishers." His first novel to be published, "A Table from the Past," will be discussed at the book signing and copies will be for sale. He has also written his first mystery novel, which is ready for publication. He said that he enjoyed writing this novel that he wrote a sequel, which is still in the editing and revision process.
Weaver is now retired and lives in the area. He spends his time writing, growing flowers, making toys for children and helping other people. He now has three grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.
He says he is a Christian and his manuscripts reflect his beliefs and heritage. They are acceptable for young adults and religious adult reading.
