Resident thanks supporters of car show
I would to take this opportunity to let everyone know that the Brewton Car Show was a success.
With Hurricane Rita coming ashore that same morning and the uncertainty of gasoline availability, we still had 42 people to register and show their vehicles. Some of these cars and trucks were from as far away as Montgomery.
Thanks to ALL of you who braved the weather to come and show or just dropped by for a visit.
Due to the generosity of our sponsors we were able to donate the registration money to charity. Those sponsors that purchased the trophies and awards were BankTrust (Ed Livingston), David's Catfish House (Terrance Breckenridge), Kenny's Motorsports (Kenny Layton), and O'Reilly Auto Parts (Kevin Hoomes).  
Thanks to them we were able to donate $1,090 to the Lion's Club for Hurricane Katrina Relief in south Mobile County.
Thanks also to the people and businesses that donated door prizes: Ann Freeman, O'Reilly Auto Parts, Marvin's, Southern Pine, Performance Tire and Wheel, David's Catfish House, Global Battery, Sears, Speedy Lub, Auto Zone, Advanced Auto Parts, George's BBQ, The Book and Bean, and Down To Earth Ace Hardware.
Thanks to the city employees that were working early that morning cleaning the parking site.
Thanks to the Honorable Mayor Ted Jennings for coming and awarding the &#8221Mayor's Choice“ award and Kenny Layton and Kevin Hoomes for presenting the &#8221Sponsor's Choice“ award.
A special thanks to my friend, Mr. Joe Gordy, for climbing aboard when I first pitched the idea to him. He was there every time I called on him and helped more than I can name.

Evacuee lost cat in area
On Aug. 28, I evacuated from Biloxi, Miss. to Alabama, along with my family and several pets. We stayed at an RV Park in Castleberry, and on Thursday Sept. 1, one of my cats, a female tortoiseshell, escaped. Everyone in the community was very kind, looking out for the cat. When we left to come back to Biloxi on Tuesday, Sept. 6 she still hadn't been seen.
She is very timid. Her name is Miss Kitty, though I doubt she will come if called. She is about 8 lbs, with green/gold eyes. She hasn't been de-clawed, but has been an inside cat for the past eight years. She used to sleep on my bed (occasionally by my head) and I miss her, and really wish I could find her.
