Mr. Bernell &#8220Bernie” Sparks, 79, died Thursday, Oct. 13, 2005 at his residence in Brewton after an extended illness. He was a native of Jay, Fla., a former resident of Cantonment, Fla. and a long time resident of Brewton. He was an active member of North Brewton Baptist Church for over 60 years, a U.S. Marine and was retired from Smurfit Stone with 35 years of service.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Madeline Sparks of Brewton; a son, Greg (Tabatha) Sparks of Mansfield, La.; three daughters, Sue (Harry) Hawthorne of Milton, Fla., Karen (John) Davis of Gulf Breeze, and Lisa Austin of Atmore; three sisters, Christine Crockett of Pensacola, Fla., Sybil Killiam of Century, Fla., and Milbra Heck of Cantonment; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 15, at 3 p.m. at North Brewton Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael King officiating. Burial followed at Green Acres Memorial Gardens with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing. Pallbearers were his grandchildren, Todd Rodgers, Jason Myers, and Charles Austin and grandsons-in-law, Keith Kirchharr, Richard Vester and Robbi Hardy.
