Three individuals were arrested this week after officers made a routine traffic stop and seized crack cocaine from the vehicle.
On Thursday, Oct. 20, agents from the 21st Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force along with officers from the Atmore Police Department conducted a routine traffic stop on Highway 21 north in Atmore. After a search of vehicle, officers seized $300 worth of crack cocaine.
Charles Hurst, 29, of 400 Vigger Street in Monroeville, was charged with conspiracy to commit a controlled substance crime and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.
According to a news release sent out Friday afternoon, Hurst is currently an Alabama probationer.
Betty Murphy, 41, of 133 Carol Street in Monroeville, was charged with conspiracy to commit a controlled substance crime and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.
Matthew S. Hartley, 23, of 65 Larmar Ave in Monroeville, was charged with conspiracy to commit a controlled substance crime and giving false information to a police officer.
The 21st Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force is comprised of the following law enforcement agencies: Escambia County Sheriff's Department, Atmore Police Department, East Brewton Police Department, Brewton Police Department, Flomaton Police Department, the Escambia County District Attorney's office and the Escambia County Commission.
The Task Force receives 50 percent of its funding from a grand provided by the Bureau of Justice Affairs Division of the United States Department of Justice. The grant is administered by the Alabama Department of Economic Affairs.
The remainder of the funding is provided by the Escambia County Sheriff's Department, Atmore Police Department, Brewton Police Department and the Escambia County District Attorney's office.
