A pizza delivery man was surrounded by four unknown assailants over the weekend and robbed at gunpoint.
On Saturday, at approximately 9:50 p.m., Jerry Smothers, 31, who works for Pizza Pro, was making a routine delivery to a repeat customer on Bryant Circle.
According to Brewton Police Chief Monte McGougin, after Smothers made his delivery he got into his car and drove approximately 20 yards. At that point, Smothers told officers that four black men surrounded his car. Smothers proceeded to stop and roll down his window.
As Smothers rolled down his window, one of the suspects – who was wearing a grey and white jumpsuit with a white stripe down the sides and waves in his hair as stated by the victim – placed a gun under his chin and demanded him to hand over the money, his cell phone and wallet.
Smothers handed over the money bag and his wallet to the suspect. The suspect managed to get away with $149 – $95 of which was Smothers' personal money.
Smothers told officers that the other suspects were wearing hooded jumpsuits and the only face he could identify was the suspect who pulled a gun on him.
After Smothers made the report to the police department, Officer Rodney Brand and Sgt. Eric Suarez returned to Bryant Circle and did not find any persons matching the physical descriptions.
Officers were busy pulling suspects and placing them in lineups for Smothers to identify, however, attempts so far have been unsuccessful.
