I wanted to give you more information on the old Pure Oil station that sits on the corner of Hwy. 31 and Persimmon Street. Mrs. Elizabeth Edwards called me the other day and told me a little bit about it. She said that the building was built by Charlie West in the late 1930s or early 40s. He operated it for many years and at his death in 1959, his wife did not continue to run the business.
I talked with another lady who brought a photograph into the office that was taken several years ago. I don't remember all the details but I believe she said her folks ran the station for some years. The story was that they had stopped at the station on their wedding day and then came back years later to run the place.
Anyway, I am sure there are other people out there who know the history of the station.
I have heard from another person who wants some information on her family. She writes, &#8220Hello, I am a descendant of Watsons and Straughns. My great-grandmother was Frances M. Watson who married Pinkney Straughn as, I believe, his third wife.  They had a daughter, &#8220Margaret Theresa,” who married Ernest N. Robinson, my grandparents. Pinkney's father was Fielding. I know there are some relatives buried there at Elim. Are there ever reunions held for Overstreet family?  Is there someone in Brewton that can guide me to finding these answers?  The person I'm so looking for is Henry S. Overstreet.  He died around 1896.  He and his family lived there and in Escambia, Florida.  From 1880 until he died he was in Escambia, Ala.  Any help would be appreciated.”
