Escambia County residents should be on the lookout for a new garbage cart collection service that will become soon be available to all residents.
According to County Administrator Tony Sanks, only outside municipalities will be delivered carts, and all residents must subscribes to the garbage collection service and use the new carts for garbage pickup.
Sanks said that BFI had not given a specific ending date on when the carts would be delivered. According to Barry Barter, &#8220we are hoping to get started (Tuesday), if all goes well. We are still working on the routing sheet.”
Barter added that BFI hires a third party to get the carts out and it takes quite a bit of time to assemble the carts.
The garbage cart should be used to hold bagged household garbage or other waste. The carts should be placed by the curb at 6 a.m. on the day of pickup, approximately four feet from objects, and be placed on the public right of way for collection with handles and wheels facing your home.
Bags and other items placed around the cart or on top of the cart will not be picked up.
Sanks said that it will take several weeks to receive a cart, which will begin this week. If for some reason a cart is delivered to a neighbor and not to your home, Sanks advises residents to contact BFI at 809-0800.
Residents who have not signed up for the service call 1-800-867-8621.
