Mr. John Joe Goneke Jr., 85, of Forrest Avenue, died Saturday, Nov. 26, 2005 at a Pensacola hospital after a brief illness. He was a native of Mexia and a long-time resident of Brewton. He was a retired carpenter, a U.S. Army veteran and of the Church of God faith.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Ashburn Goneke of Brewton; a daughter, Stevie Jo (Wayne) Martin of Brewton; a brother, Marshall Goneke of Lillian; four sisters, Evie Mae Watson of East Brewton, Annie Lou Cates of Birmingham, Virginia Graddy of Castleberry and Irene Menton of Pensacola, Fla.; and one grandson, John Gregory Darby of Brewton.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 29, at 11 a.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. James Wiggins and the Rev. Homer Stewart officiating. Burial followed at Zion Hill Cemetery with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
