Can't decide what kind of New Year's resolution to make? Why not join the millions of Americans and vow to get back into shape.
There are no more excuses this year to avoid the gym. The Brewton YMCA is offering its annual incentive for members to join and get into shape. The incentive began the first of the year and will last until Jan. 31. What's the big incentive?
The joining fee, which usually ranges from $25 to $100, has been reduced to $20.06. For members, the YMCA offers a variety of ways to spend the mornings or evenings productively. Don't like to sweat? Take advantage of the heated, indoor pool. Don't swim? Access the free weight room or free aerobic classes.
Kids are no longer an excuse to avoid the gym either. The YMCA has an after school and summer day camp program and a nursery for infants six weeks to seven years old.
According to Georgia Lanier, as of Tuesday she had several new members take advantage of the low joining fee incentive. In fact, she said she had at least five join by noon.
Janet Peterman, a personal trainer at the YMCA, said that the new year is absolutely the right time to think about getting into shape.
For those who are new to the gym, Peterman said that the YMCA offers another training facility downtown.
Setting a realistic goal is typically key to following through with a resolution and maintaining the resolution for years to follow.
Peterman recommends at least two to three days a week of consistent exercise. If you're just starting an exercise plan, begin slowly, and then work your way up to a more challenging fitness regimen.
