If you haven't checked your smoke alarms lately, Joe, Melinda and Joy McCorvey's story should make you put this newspaper down and check the batteries in yours now.
The McCorveys awoke to the sounds of their smoke alarms Tuesday to find that the opposite end of their home was engulfed in flames.
The fire destroyed their home and several vehicles.
According to a study by the National Fire Protection Association:
