Although they went their separate ways for a while after their first encounter, Josey Shannon never forgot Darrell Blevins and Blevins never forgot Shannon.
When Shannon played at Alabama Southern College and Blevins was an assistant coach at that school, Blevins told Shannon he would give him an opportunity when he got his opportunity.
True his word, when Blevins got his first chance to become a head coach last summer at Jefferson Davis Community College, he immediately added Shannon to his coaching staff.
It was more than just Shannon's interest in coaching that led Blevins to add him to his JDCC staff.
The 26-year-old Shannon graduated from Maplesville High School and then took his playing skills to Alabama Southern and the University of West Florida. After college Shannon spent two years of playing professional ball with the Pensacola Pelicans, an independent minor league squad.
While Shannon's work at JDCC will be a jack-of-all-trades, his primary duties include working with the hitting and outfielders.
Shannon said he plans on a lengthy career in baseball.
