Specializing in cakes and other specialty baked goods, Bakies Bake Shop is now open in East Brewton.
Headed by matriarch Becky McClelland, the family-owned bake shop has more than 30 years baking experience, and secret baking recipes that date back to more than 50 years ago.
Becky McClelland's son Christopher and his wife Tami help out at the bake shop. The threesome officially opened their business on Jan. 31. So far, they all said, business has been booming, and they are all loving every minute of it.
On Tuesday, they were busy cutting up blondies into squares and testing &#8220bon bon” recipes.
Becky McClelland said she wants to insure quality baked goods, so that's why she insists on customers calling ahead to place an order.
Most of the time in the morning, the three McClellands are busy doing prep work. Then they take turns delivering items or ringing up take out orders.
Tami and Christopher married 10 years ago, and it was Becky McClelland who made their cake, which consisted of six layers adorned with flowers.
Becky McClelland said that while wedding cakes are difficult to make, she loves to make cakes the most.
