While most Alabama high school football teams use the full allotment of 15 days they are allowed for spring training, the T.R. Miller Tigers are once again using one-third less.
The Tigers finished up their first week of work Friday and will finish up this Friday with their annual Red/White scrimmage game that gets underway at 4 p.m. at Brewton Municipal Stadium.
Eighty-five players are taking part in T.R. Miller's workouts. That total includes 25 (incoming) seniors, 15 juniors, 20 sophomores and 25 freshmen.
Riggs indicated these two weeks are an initiation period for the incoming freshmen.
T.R. Miller is missing just one player, senior wide receiver Terrence Walker, due to his participation in basketball.
After being away from the game for a couple of months, the T.R. Miller coach said getting used to contact again is the toughest adjustment for players in spring training.
Riggs said the team's weight room schedule is adjusted during these two weeks of spring training.
The Tigers coaching staff is a bit shorthanded this spring due to the departure of assistant head coach/offensive line coach Jack Whigham, who took the head coaching position at Opp last month.
Riggs said he is careful how he will divide his roster for the Red/White game.
