Brewton Elementary School students and local artists are busy preparing art items to be auctioned at Imagination in Bloom, a PTO fundraiser scheduled for April.
Committee members Leigh Kelly and Scott Huff said they expect to have at least 40 items to auction during the event, which will feature entertainment by Brewton Dance Studio, the Andalusia Ballet, Brewton Elementary's handbell group and local cheer-nastics students. Organizers also are working to have food available on site during the event.
Community volunteers are working with BES students on art projects that will be auctioned during the event. Among the student projects are painted chairs, had decorated photo frames and finger paintings. But the organizers also expect to feature the work of local artists.
Local potter Jim Gay is working in collaboration with the children, sculpting pottery which they will paint. He will then fire the works to be auctioned. Sharon Brewer is working with students on a mosaic wall painting. The organizers also expect artwork from Emily Wesley, Jane McMillan, Katie Radney, Lee Bain and Bernice Sims to be included in the auction. There also should be some weekend trips to Destin in the items presented for auction.
Proceeds of the event are used to enhance school activities.
PTO, she said, is committed to helping teachers and students in the classroom.
Anyone who is interested in contributing to the event can contact Kelly at 238-3274.
Imagination in Bloom is set for 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 20.
