When Jamie Riggs stepped down as head coach of the T.R. Miller Lady Tigers softball program last spring, one of his long-range aspirations for the program was the development of a junior varsity team.
That goal will be realized this spring, as succeeding head coach Greg White has put together a 14-member junior varsity squad.
A better name for the T.R. Miller junior varsity squad might be the Brewton Middle School softball team since all 14 players are BMS students.
The T.R. Miller junior varsity team will make its debut March 2 at home against Straughn. The Lady Tigers are slated to play 13 games along with one tournament in Andalusia.
The T.R. Miller skipper said there is a chance some members from the junior varsity team might move up to the varsity level for the remainder of that season.
White said both the varsity and junior varsity teams are practicing about two hours

per day with about a 45-minute overlap in the middle.
White said he was not surprised by the amount of interest in the junior varsity program for its first year.
