T.R. Miller Tigers football coach Jamie Riggs along with coaches from Prattville, Decatur, Trinity Presbyerian, Cottonwood, UMS-Wright and Moody is trying to pass a proposal through the Alabama High School Athletic Association that will allow players to wear helmets during summer workouts.
The T.R. Miller coach said the biggest push for helmet use is for seven-on-seven practices and competition.
The proposal is backed by the Alabama Football Coaches Association, of which Riggs serves as president.
The next step for the proposal is a vote for approval by AHSAA member schools. After that, the AHSAA Legislative Council will meet in March to discuss possible passage of the proposal.
