According to the East Brewton Police Department, a routine patrol on Friday, Feb. 24, 2006, netted the arres of four individuals in the old Fort Crawford Park.
Officer John Smith was on patrol in the park at approximately 3:28 p.m. when he noticed a suspicious vehicle parked at the far end of the park. Officer Smith checked out the white Chevrolet Baretta, with four white males inside, and called in Officer Jason Crawford to assist. The four males in the car were Curtis Eugene Capers and Curtis Matthew Capers, both of 103 Roadway Street in East Brewton, and Christopher Ray Weaver and Samuel Weaver, both of 3349 Douglas Avenue in Brewton.
Officers Smith and Crawford ran the identification of the four men to check for outstanding warrants. Curtis Eugene Capers was discovered to have an outstanding warrant issued by the Foley Police Department for failure to appear. He was arrested and a search of him and the vehicle turned up several used needles and six or seven new needles. There were also six or seven pipes used for smoking crack cocaine. There was other drug paraphernalia found in the vehicle, including an M&M candy bottle with a piece of crack cocaine inside.
All four of the males were arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance. They were transported to the Escambia County Detention Center where they are being held. The vehicle was impounded and evidence was turned over to the 21st. Judicial District Drug Task Force for further investigation.
