A routine patrol for Brewton Police officers turned into a high-speed police chase that ended with the arrest of a Florida man in possession of illegal narcotics.
According to Brewton Police Chief Monte McGougin, officers on patrol Friday afternoon attempted to stop James Allen Prince, 47, of Milton. Prince refused to stop his vehicle and led officers on a high-speed police chase into East Brewton, McGougin said.
McGougin said Prince began tossing bags of marijuana out of the vehicle. At that time, all units were called to pursue Prince. As he turned the corner, Prince lost control of the vehicle and crashed his vehicle on Hickory Street in East Brewton.
Along with the marijuana, officers seized Loritab pills that were thrown outside of the vehicle, McGougin said. Being in possession of a controlled substance not in its proper container or without a prescription is illegal.
Prince was charged with possession of marijuana in the first degree, possession of a controlled substance (prescription drug Loritab), and he was ticketed for attempting to elude a police officer, running a stop sign and not wearing a seat belt.
Assisting with the arrest were agents with the 21st Judicial Drug Task Force and Tim Cook with the State of Alabama Adult Probation office.
