Brewton earned the luck of the Irish just in time for St. Patrick's Day last week.
But perhaps more than luck, it was hard work that helped lure McArdle Enterprises to the Brewton Industrial Park.
Seamus McArdle, a native of Ireland, is moving his Crestview, Fla., floor manufacturing company to the city. Production is expected to begin by the end of April, with an initial seven employees and hopes to grow the company by 10 by the end of the year.
The Brewton City Council approved a tax abatement for the new business at its meeting last week.
Escambia County Industrial Development Authority officials said they have been working with the company for months to help McArdle find a building for the business.
While McArdle Enterprises may not have dozens of employees - not yet anyway - it does bring the diversification that small towns like Brewton need to thrive in a changing economy.
McArdle uses one of our best assets - timber - but brings a new face and a new spin to a longtime resource.
We're glad to welcome the company and thank the ECIDA and other local officials for the work it took to bring McArdle to the city.
