Brewton City Council members are still waiting to appoint a new council member to the vacant District 4 seat.
Walter O. &#8220Jake” Lewis' resignation became effective March 1. Since the end of February when he announced his resignation, council members have been looking to fill that vacancy. So far, no discussion has been made public as to who they may consider for the seat.
During Tuesday's City Council meeting, an item on the agenda discussing the current vacancy was removed. Mayor Ted Jennings said at the end of the meeting his absence from the March 14 meeting was the reason council members did not have anything to discuss publicly.
Jennings was out of town attending a conference in Washington, D.C. Jennings said the council has two more meetings to take action on filling the vacancy. After the time is up, the governor must appoint the position.
Jennings did not comment on whether the council had an individual in mind who would fill the seat. Jennings did say, however, he felt confident the council would make a decision soon - and before the deadline for the governor to appoint a new member.
