Army National Guard Pvt. Jasper D. Smith has graduated from the Light-Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic Advanced Individual Training course at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Aberdeen, Md.
Smith is the son of Donna K. Smit and Dennis J. Smith, both of Brewton. Smith is a 2005 graduate of T.R. Miller High School.
The course is designed to train soldiers to perform unit maintenance and recovery operations on gasoline and diesel fueled light-wheeled vehicles, including prime movers designated as five-ton or less and their associated trailers, and associated items.
Soldiers were trained to perform maintenance and recovery operations on track and heavy-wheeled vehicles, and on material handling equipment; maintain power assisted brake systems, vehicle suspension systems, wheel/hub assemblies, mechanical steering systems, hydraulic power steering systems, and crane/hoist/winch assemblies.
