A new apartment complex that will generate about $15,000 per year in sales tax for the city of East Brewton is currently under construction, city officials announced this week.
The 52-unit apartment complex, built by Kiser Construction of Montgomery, will be finished some time in the fall, Lawton Shipp, a city compliance officer, said Monday.
Kiser Construction also built Summerchase apartments in East Brewton. The new apartments will bring a total of five complexes to the city. Four of the complexes - including the new one - are subsidized for low-income families and one is subsidized through Southwest Mental Health Department.
The new complex, dubbed Wynnchase apartments, will be located on Williamson Street.
Mayor Terry Clark appointed councilmen Wayne Howard and Kenny Hultz to a committee that will be responsible for finding a way to divert traffic from the already high-volume traffic area.
Clark said the revenue on the building itself would generate approximately $15,000 per year in sales tax.
