Baxley's gubernatorial campaign tour on Friday included stops between Church's Chicken and Massey Motors in Evergreen, downtown Castleberry, Brewton, a lunch in Flomaton's city park with her denouement at Buster's Restaurant in Atmore, where she carried the same message to the residents.
More than a dozen Baxley supporters gathered in the back room at No. 1 China Buffet in Brewton to hear what the candidate had to say.
Baxley told the crowd she personally wouldn't vote for a woman just because she's a woman. But for Baxley, who is mother of two, she said women were equipped with a special &#8220caretaking gene.”
While not specifically speaking of former Gov. Don Siegeleman, who has been charged with racketeering, Baxley said if elected, her administration would be of honesty and integrity.
She also referred to a 90-page printed book of promises Gov. Bob Riley ran for office on.
If elected governor, Baxley said she will increase funding for programs that teach the basics, such as the Alabama Reading Initiative implemented in the schools in Brewton and East Brewton.
She also referred to Gov. Riley's recent tax cut promise, which will begin leveling income taxes on a family of four when their income reaches $4,600, which is the lowest income threshold in the nation.
She said she would treat the citizens of the state much like a household treats its members.
Baxley ended her campaign stop in Brewton with a tour of the Escambia County Child Advocacy Center. The month of April is Child Abuse Awareness Month.
