It is probably a shame the Jefferson Davis Community College Warhawks baseball season has only six days left.
JDCC has saved its best ball of the season for its final days. The Warhawks won their third straight game and sixth in eight contests Thursday when they posted an 11-5 road win over the Enterprise-Ozark Boll Weevil.
The win gave JDCC (21-25 overall and 7-16 in the Alabama Community College Conference) its second straight ACCC series win after it went 1-14 in league play the first three weeks.
The Warhawks built a 5-0 lead in the first three innings with the help of RBI singles by Jake Bonds, who had three hits and two RBIs, and Jeremy White. Three more runs scored on errors.
Enterprise-Ozark, which fell to 0-23 in conference play, cut that gap to just 5-4 in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Warhawks regained the momentum in the top of the sixth when Kenny McDonald stroked a two-run double that made it 7-4. Bubba Mack, who had four RBIs, opened up even more breathing room one inning later when his two-run homer made it 9-4.
Tim Horne went the first six innings where he allowed five hits with seven strikeouts to get the win.
JDCC lashed out 27 hits and scored 27 runs Tuesday when it began the series against the Boll Weevil with a doubleheader sweep. The Warhawks held on for a 10-8 win in the opener
and posted a season high run output in a 17-6 triumph in game two.
Game one was deadlocked at 3-3 in the bottom of the third when JDCC strung together a decisive seven-run rally. Ryan Gray started the rally with a single and ended it with a three-run double. Brandon Sapp had an RBI double, while Jeremy White and Jake Bonds both had RBI singles.
White was a perfect four-for-four at the plate. Sapp, Steven Bingert and Gray each contributed two hits in the win.
Ronnie Baker started and went the first four and two-thirds innings for the win.
It was also a big inning that paved the way to JDCC's game two win. That contest was tied at 4-4 when the Warhawks took the lead for good with a six-run uprising in the bottom of the second inning. The key blow was Sapp's three-run homer. Jordan Currid also went deep in the inning with a solo shot.
JDCC was able to close the game out on the 10-run rule with two more runs in the third and five more in the fourth.
Bingert was a perfect three-for-three at the plate with an RBI. Kenny McDonald had a pair of hits and also drove in a pair. Jamar Bryant and Currid both had two hits and an RBI.
Bubba Mack went the distance on the mound to get the win.
The Warhawks begin their final week of play Tuesday with their final home date of the season, a 1 p.m. doubleheader against Faulkner State.
