It has been a couple of years since the Jefferson Davis Community College Lady Warhawks softball program has had any hometown talent on its roster.
That changed when JDCC coach recently inked a pair of T.R. Miller Lady Tigers, catcher Terri Lynne Peacock and third baseman Catherine Layton.
Peacock has been a contributor to the Lady Tigers program since eighth grade. Most of her five seasons in the program have been spent at catcher. JDCC currently has a freshman, Kayla Galloway, in that position.
Peacock has also been a significant contributor for the T.R. Miller volleyball program for the past four years as a setter. While Peacock's signing at JDCC is through softball, Nims did not rule out the possibility of volleyball for Peacock.
Layton has made a rapid rise in softball. Layton did not crack the T.R. Miller lineup until halfway through her junior season.
While the Lady Warhawks currently have a sophomore, Stacy Sanders, in the third base role, Layton will have some competition for that spot next year.
T.R. Miller coach Greg White said the work ethic of both players will carry them a long way at the junior college level.
Peacock said it was important to her to be able to stay home for a couple more years.
Staying home is also important to Layton.
Peacock plans to study physical therapy in college, while Layton plans to pursue history.
