Escambia County Sheriff's officers were on the lookout Thursday for an inmate who escaped from the county jail in downtown Brewton.
William Mitchell, 47, was being held on federal theft charges when he escaped, Sheriff Grover Smtih said.
Mitchell is described as a 6' 4" black male, weighing about 175 pounds.
He would have been wearing a white jumpsuit when he escaped, sheriff's department officials said.
