An argument over money escalated into violence early Wednesday when one man shot another multiple times, police said.
The suspect was charged with attempted murder.
Darrell &#8220NuNu” Campbell, 21, 913 Lovelace Ave., was arrested in the incident, in which he allegedly shot his friend Ricardo Smith, Brewton Police Chief Monte McGougin said.
Smith, 26, was taken by an unknown person to D.W. McMillan Hospital, where officials reported the gunshot wound around 1:20 a.m.
Smith, of 820 Conoley Ave., had been shot multiple times in the abdomen and was rushed into surgery. He was listed in stable condition Thursday.
Investigators with the police department responded to the hospital and to the alleged crime scene at 913 Lovelace Ave., McGougin said.
McGougin said Smith and Campbell were good friends. He said the argument began in the East Jackson Street area.
When Campbell was being dropped off at his home on Lovelace Avenue, he allegedly shot Smith, McGougin said.
Campbell was later taken into custody by the Brewton Police Department and placed in the Escambia County Jail on attempted murder charges.
McGougin said Campbell has prior arrests, including robbery in the first degree. Campbell was sent to prison in December 2000. He was released on Jan. 29.
McGougin said Campbell was out on bond after he had allegedly assaulted a police officer several weeks ago.
Campbell's bond has been revoked and he will not be released, according to a spokesperson with the sheriff's office. The case is still under investigation.
