Weddings are all about the list

I always thought writing a column would be easy. One of my favorite television shows is Sex and the City. I watch Carrie Bradshaw sitting at her laptop, using her every day life lessons to turn into a great column.
Unfortunately, that doesn't come so easily for me. However, with the upcoming nuptials, I think I've found my niche for the time being.
So bear with me because you will be living my life as I prepare to walk down the longest aisle in Mobile - seriously.
For several weeks I have been hounding my mother for her guest list. But I have yet to receive the list because one of their dogs had an unexpected puppy that was born premature.
So, my mother, being the kind and nurturing woman she is, has been spending day and night feeding it with a tiny baby bottle. That was her first excuse for not sending me the list.
Then the puppy died. Which is devastating, I totally agree. So, my mother &#8220took to the bed” as we have called it since I was a wee tot.
That was her second excuse for not sending me the list. Now, a week has passed and there are no more excuses. But I have yet to receive her list.
It's becoming a running joke between me and The Fiance. Yes, he no longer has a name. He's simply The Fiance.
I have found that when I call him by his first name to people who do not know him, I often have to say, he's my fiance. It just seemed like the right thing to do - changing his name and all. I mean, my family and I already call my oldest sister, Sister.
Someone asked me the other day what her real name was and I blanked. I've been calling her Sister since I could speak.
But back to the list.
Unless some other crisis erupts, I may be getting my mom's list this week or this weekend. She keeps telling me she only wants a few people to come. Well, I'm thinking, just jot them down and send it to me via e-mail. It seems plain and simple to me.
One of my bridesmaids who got married a year ago sent me her list in a matter of seconds. In fact, it was her entire guest list. So I know it can be done. It's just a matter of when can it get finished.
I harp on the list because my married friends say it's the most time consuming of all the ongoing projects. That freaks me out a little bit because in my mind, there are other things on my list that seem like they will be more time consuming.
But apparently I'm wrong - as I have been on many occassions. Weddings, it seems, are all about the list.
