For those who have lived in Brewton for a while, it comes as no surprise how quickly news travels.
However, I was still shocked to learn how fast the news had traveled about the new job I had just taken in Gulf Shores.
I was asked in the middle of the week but had not come to a conclusion until the end of the week. By Monday morning, I had received several e-mails and phone calls asking to put the rumor to rest.
So now it's on to Gulf Shores - just in time for hurricane season. Is that my biggest fear? No. Lots of changes will be in store for me.
Not only will I be moving to a hurricane bullseye, but I will be moving out of the newspaper realm and into the world of magazines.
Magazines are not unfamiliar to me. I had my first writing experience with a magazine and really fell in love with the how it worked behind the scenes and the people involved in the magazine industry.
I still remember my editor holding my hand as I nervously called the mayor of Mobile and asked him how women in Mobile differed from women in other areas. Then the next person on the list was the district attorney.
For anyone who has ever met John Tyson, he is a very intimidating man. But after I got a chuckle from him and a very political response, I knew it was smooth sailing from then on.
The other big change will be moving in with the Fiance. I never thought I would move in with a boy - especially since it's frowned upon in my family.
So, I found myself one again nervously calling my mother, only this time, no one was there to hold my hand.
It was a hard question. I take that back. It was an uncomfortable question. To ask your mother if it's OK to move in with a boy just didn't naturally come out of my mouth.
But, she told me what she told my brother when he found himself in the same situation. You've gotta do what you've gotta do.
See, if would have been one thing to just move in with Fiance for no reason.
Since we are getting married next year and would be saving a lot of money (I mentioned we would be able to pay for more of the wedding expenses this way), she knew it only made sense to move in with him rather than commute from Mobile to Gulf Shores.
Next week will be my last week of living here in Brewton. I have promised some friends to wait until the end so I will say my good-byes then.
