T.R. Miller Tigers shortstop Baxley Raines has been selected to compete in the Alabama Baseball Coaches Association 2006 Underclassmen All-Star Weekend. The competition will be held June 29-July 2 at Troy University.
Raines, who will be a senior next season, was one of 140 players who competed in the South District first level of workouts held earlier this month at the University of Mobile. Raines was one of 20 players selected from those workouts for the Underclassmen All-Star competition. Players had their skills judged by community college coaches and professional scouts.
Other players who were selected from the south workouts included Glenwood's Austin Allison, Daphne's Cody Barber, Ryan Hines and Chris Peacock, Satsuma's Josh Blaylock and Sam Gates, Baldwin County's Chris Boyington and Josh Huggins, Murphy's Taylor Chadwick, Clarke County's Hunter Cross, Clarke Prep's Clay Furrow, St. Paul's Dustin Hood, Fairhope's Nathaniel Lami, McGill-Toolen's Richard Martin, Mary Montgomery's Ryan Waltman and Britton Mayo, Robertsdale's Logan Ramage, B.C. Rain's Gabriel Reid, and Woodham's Chris Davidson.
Four teams from the southern part of the state and four more teams from the northern part of the state, each of which contain 18 to 20 players, will compete at Troy.
